Ashcroft’s Hotels

Story Time

During the 1940s, an Irish man named Paddy O’Sulivan worked at the Ashcroft Hotel. Paddy had a parrot named Polly, which many people also called him “Bob”. Bob was an attraction to all who passed by and could even say a few words. Those who visited the Hotel never stopped without making his acquaintance. He liked to spend some of his time in his cage in the Hotel, but also liked to hang in the maple trees outside the Hotel. He liked to whistle at those who passed by and cause mischief. Those who knew Bob well, would say to him “Hello Bob” as they passed by, and Bob would respond with a “Hello Bob” back. After many years, Polly “Bob” the parrot moved to Calgary with the Durieux family who had managed the Hotel for the last 2 years.
