Did you know…

One of Ashcroft’s hotels was called the Cargile Hotel? Before the hotel was completed in the fall of 1886, a strong wind blew down the structure. By the end of the year it was rebuilt. Less than a year later in November 1887, the hotel was destroyed by fire. Half a year later the hotel was rebuilt, however in April 1892 it was destroyed by fire once again. A few years later in 1895 it was rebuilt but closed and reopened numerous times. In July 1916, when the hotel was unoccupied, it was destroyed by fire again. It was never rebuilt.
