Pattern Making

Patterns could be found on cedar root baskets, clothing, mats, blankets, and more. Patterns could be made using coloured beads, dyes from berries, and different coloured bark.

Try making your own pattern on paper using paint.

Materials:

  • Paint
  • Elastics or string
  • Anything you can wrap a string or elastic around. In our example, we used a wooden block and a paper towel roll.
  • A lid or something to put paint on that is big enough to press your object in
  • Paint brush to apply paint to the object, unless you just want to press it into the paint
  • Paper

Steps:

1. Pick an object to wrap elastics or string around to make a pattern

2. Apply paint to the objects

3. Press on your paper to make a pattern

Send us a cool pattern you made so we can check it out!
